A piggyback trailer gives you a compact, road-legal way to carry a motorbike, scooter, quad or extra luggage behind your bakkie or caravan, without upgrading to a full-size unit. Built single-axle and light, it tows easily and parks in a standard bay.
What a piggyback trailer is built for
The deck is sized for a single motorcycle or quad, with lashing points for tie-down straps and a low load height that makes ramp loading simple. The same platform doubles as a luggage or camping trailer when you are not carrying a bike, so one purchase covers several jobs. For heavier vehicle-carrying work, compare it against our car trailers and bike, quad and golf-cart trailers.
Because it is light and unbraked, running costs stay low: there are no brake components to service, tyres and bearings are inexpensive to replace, and the trailer stands upright against a wall when garage space is tight. It is a practical first trailer for a rider who needs to move a bike to a track day, a race meeting or a repair shop without wrestling it into the back of a bakkie.

| Configuration | Single axle, slipper-spring suspension |
|---|---|
| Braking | Unbraked, override brakes optional |
| GVM | 750 kg |

Every unit is welded on a box-section chassis and finished to shrug off dust roads and coastal air, with a galvanised option for owners who tow near the sea or store outdoors year round. Mudguards, jockey wheel and a spare-wheel bracket can be added so the trailer is ready for long trips straight off the yard.
Towing, licensing and load safety
An unbraked trailer of this size can be towed on a standard code B licence, provided your vehicle’s rated towing capacity and the loaded weight stay within the limits set out in the National Road Traffic Act. Always secure the bike or load at four points and check that the lights, number plate and reflectors work before every trip.
The piggyback trailer sits in our specialist trailers range, alongside purpose-built units for niche loads. If you mostly move tools and cargo, a utility and cargo trailer may suit you better. Not sure which fits your vehicle? Contact our Hartswater team and we will match a trailer to your tow rating.
