Heights and pale profiles

Common heights are 1.2 m, 1.8 m, 2.1 m and 2.4 m. Angle-iron pales cost less; W-section pales with triple-pointed tops are stronger and harder to climb.

Raw steel: finish it before it rusts

These panels are supplied raw, as uncoated steel, which keeps the price down. Prime and paint them, or have them hot-dip galvanised, as soon as possible, because raw steel rusts quickly, especially at the coast and in humid areas such as Durban.

Installation

Posts are set in concrete at the panel width and must be plumb and in line, because palisade panels bolt between them and will not hide a crooked post.

Should palisade be galvanised or painted?

Hot-dip galvanising lasts far longer, especially near the sea, and needs no paint. Priming and painting costs less up front but needs redoing every few years.
