UV 55watt In Line -Ultraviolet light – Sterilizer for Water
The 55W UV Water Sterilizer adds a final disinfection stage to a correctly designed water filtration system.
The unit uses ultraviolet light to treat water as it flows through the stainless steel chamber. As a result, the system helps deactivate susceptible microorganisms without adding disinfecting chemicals to the water. With a rated flow of up to 2,720 litres per hour, this system suits a range of residential and suitable light commercial water-treatment applications.
How Does UV Water Treatment Work?
UV treatment exposes water to ultraviolet light inside the stainless steel chamber.
First, water enters the chamber and flows past the quartz sleeve containing the UV lamp. The UV light then reaches susceptible microorganisms in the water and disrupts their ability to reproduce.
As a result, UV provides an additional disinfection barrier within the water-treatment system.
Importantly, UV treatment does not add chlorine or other disinfecting chemicals to the water.

Why Add UV to Your Water Filtration System?
Sediment and carbon filters perform important filtration functions. However, they do not provide the same function as UV disinfection.
UV adds another treatment stage by targeting susceptible microorganisms in the water.
Therefore, combining appropriate filtration with UV treatment provides a more complete approach to water treatment.
Water Must Be Properly Pre-Filtered
UV performs best when the water entering the chamber is clear.
For example, sediment, dirt and suspended particles can interfere with UV light transmission. These particles may shield microorganisms from the UV light.
Therefore, install the correct sediment and other required filtration stages before the UV sterilizer.
The quartz sleeve must also remain clean. Otherwise, scale and deposits on the sleeve can reduce the amount of UV light reaching the water.
What UV Treatment Does Not Remove
UV provides water disinfection rather than physical or chemical filtration.
Therefore, the UV unit does not itself remove:
- Sand and sediment
- Rust and mud
- Dissolved salts
- Heavy metals
- Chlorine
- Chemical contaminants
- Other dissolved substances
Instead, use the appropriate sediment, carbon or specialist filtration before the UV stage where required.
Correct Position in Your Filtration System
For most installations, position the UV unit after the required filtration stages and before the treated water reaches its point of use.
A typical setup could be:
Water Source → Sediment Filter → Carbon / Additional Filtration → UV Sterilizer → House or Point of Use
As a result, clearer, filtered water reaches the UV chamber and allows the system to operate under better conditions.
